Casting on

There are several ways and methods that could be employed to create cast on stitches but here is an easy one. Keep in mind that the first step to knitting is to make a slip knot. The slip knot forms a loop which is the most important part of any knitting project you undertake. Once the loop is formed in the yarn, a part of the stitch needs to be put back into the loop and pulled. Choose a needle and pass the slip knot through it. You need to pull the yarn so that the loop closes. Don't pull the yarn too vigorously as the loop might get too tight against the needle you have chosen. The degree of tightness the stitch experiences against the needle is called tension. To decide how tight the stitches should be, is indeed, the most difficult session to endure as a new knitter. Making the stitch too tight would make free knitting pattern for beginners a pain in the first place.

The Knit Stitch
The Knit stitch is more or less the same as the cast on stitch. For a knit stitch, the needle in your left hand should be in front of the needle in your right. The right hand needle should be placed in such a manner that it has the yarn twirled around it. The needle in the right hand should shift in front. Now, remove the loop from the left hand needle. Proceed with the knit stitch until you reach the end of the row.

The Purling Stitch
The purl stitch is formed in a way opposite to the knit stitch formation. For a purl stitch, the needle in your left hand should be behind the needle in your right. The left hand needle should be placed in such a way that it has the yarn wrapped around it. The needle in the left hand should shift in front. Now, remove the loop from the right hand needle.

The Binding Off
Knit two stitches and lift one stitch with your left hand needle over the right hand needle, giving the piece a finished look. To complete the piece, knitting stitches have to continue right till the moment you are left with no stitch on the left and one stitch on the right. Pass the stitch off the needle and snip the yarn ball thread. Happy Knitting!
